So yesterday at work my ankle started getting really stiff and sore. I had to limp along and not give it much pressure; it is definitely bruised up and a tad bit strained. When I woke up today, my back â“ especially my lower back started being all sore and it has been a bit stiff ever since.
Today I swapped out a 40 strand IDE cable on my secondary for an 80 strand, added a fan and added the connector to light up the 6 or so blue LEDs. I also flipped around my floppy cable so it would stop erroring at boot, and now the fucking thing will sit for 5-10 minutes and boot. When I get home today I am going to take an extra 250 watt power supply and hook some drives to it along with a fan and the lights and see if that stops the rebooting, if that does it I know that I am maxing my power supply, the only other thing I can think of is my CPU is overheating (WHY?) but I have monitoring software logging that and I will check that when I get home, or which is very highly possible I am overloading my battery back up and I need to buy another power strip and unload some items off the surge side of the battery. I hope it isn't something else doing it. I am hoping it is an overloaded power supply or UPS.
After I fiddled with \master I laid down and got about 45 minutes of sleep and then woke up to get ready to head on out and meet Carol. I got to Evos at 1237pm and she was there pretty much right at 1. We hit it off pretty quickly and talked about veganism and politics and ate yummy food out in the patio area. We have a lot in common, she is currently in the catering business, and is grossed out about working there being vegan and I was a chef for 11 years, and she is ready to move on to bigger and better things and stuff. The biggest disappointment of the whole thing is she has a boyfriend :( . After lunch we decided to head on over to Starbucks for a coffee and then we headed over to her house and we chilled out there and I helped her get some software on her computer. She lives right on the water in Gulfport so we walked out to the dock thing and talked and watched fish jump out of the water and then watched the sunset. It was really pretty. I was dreaming about living there, it would be so cool. She gets to wake up every morning and look out and see water. After the sunset we decided to get dinner so we headed on up to my side of town and ate at Thai Basil and had some yummy spicy Thai. I didn't finish it all and it was my 2 am snack. It was perfectly spiced, just enough to make my nose run. We talked a lot more at the Thai place, and stuff. I think we hit it off, and she is going to be a good friend. Too bad on the boyfriend part, she is smart and pretty, and we share a lot of the same values.
I got to work on time, but I didn't have my backpack with me so I have been struggling at this monitor with no glasses. My eyes are kind of funky now. I am really surprised, it is 4 am and I am not feeling tired. Must be the coffee and the Thai and the excitement of the day. I know that when I get home, I am going to take a melatonin and a shot or two of rum and pass the fuck out.

Sony, Rootkits and Digital Rights Management Gone Too Far
Last week when I was testing the latest version of RootkitRevealer (RKR) I ran a scan on one of my systems and was shocked to see evidence of a rootkit. Rootkits are cloaking technologies that hide files, Registry keys, and other system objects from diagnostic and security software, and they are usually employed by malware attempting to keep their implementation hidden (see my âœUnearthing Rootkitsâ article from the June issue of Windows IT Pro Magazine for more information on rootkits). The RKR results window reported a hidden directory, several hidden device drivers, and a hidden application:

This is what the record and video companies are now doing to protect their copyright, They are now putting programs on to your computer which will hide themselves from you and cause your computer not to operate correctly if you try to remove the software.
You may say "Well you shouldn't be stealing this stuff anyway!", well it affects everyone who plays a music CD or a DVD in their computer, not tries to duplicate, but plays. Let's say you watch a DVD in your laptop, guess what? You are infected.
I personally have tried to watch a movie on my computer that I LEGALLY bought, I was not able to play it on my computer because of the DRM that they had employed on the DVD. This means that in order for me to watch a legally purchased movie I had to break the law and bypass their crap to watch the movie. This was from MGM. I know when I get home I am going to be using the Rootkit Revealer to see if I have any crap on my computers.

Goodbye Columbus
Whither Columbus?
Explorer or evildoer? Discoverer or despoiler?
Nearly five centuries after his epic 70-day voyage, this
native of Italy and agent of Spain is at the center of a tricky
cross-current equal to any encountered when he headed West to find
East in 1492.
Just consider some Columbus Day events this year.
Replicas of the Nina, Pinta and Santa Maria departed Spain
Oct. 12 on a journey retracing Columbus’ Atlantic route. In the
District of Columbia, a ceremony at the Columbus statue and a
reception at the Columbus Club kicked off a year-long national
observance.
But at sunrise, in another corner of the nation’s capital, an
American Indian group known as the 1992 Alliance read the names of
native tribes exterminated by sword or disease after Columbus
landed. The memorial began what is called “The Year of the
Indigenous Peoples.”

I am going to be doing some upgrades to Who Gives A Crap? over the next week. Expect some downtime, and the site not working the way it should (ie error messages). Hopefully it will be painless, but I am not optimistic about that.
For those of you that don't know, I have forums that you can actively participate in as well. Feel free to use and abuse. Those and the gallery will not be affected.
* Deep Thought of the day
Sometimes I think the world has gone completely mad. And then I think, 'Aw, who cares?' And then I think, 'Hey, what's for supper?'
I got my electric bill the other day...
Amount Due: 199.75.
I hope that with the new thermostat, the cost to AC my home will go down.
My first overnight shift, and all is quiet on the western front. I am tired as hell and can't wait for the last 1 1/2 hour to go by. I am going to go home and crash hard.

The 9 week old kitten... yes... NINE WEEK OLD KITTEN will recover. When the Pinellas detectives found this polluted sack of meat, his response was to hand them a cellphone and say "Talk to my attorney". He apparently thinks that shooting CATS with a CROSSBOW is no big deal.
What a lovely human being. He'll most likely get probabtion and take it out on a cat.
